PSBT has produced a series of instructional, ‘how to’ videos, that  introduce potential and practicing filmmakers to the elements of independent documentary film production – its processes and techniques.

The primary objective of the series is to serve as a platform for those eager to learn filmmaking but unable to access a formal instructional course. With the increasing availability of low cost technologies for both production and post-production, the training material aims to help fulfil a vital need in democratising the non-print media: empowering individuals and communities to produce content that will help ensure the generation of more localised content, specific to the needs, values and lifestyles of the individual content provider and the community which he/she represents.

The DVDs are a basic, conceptual and technical exposition, enabling the understanding, uses and techniques of audio-visual film production with a focus on the independent documentary.

CAMERA – the camera is an eye! What are the principles and rules for seeing through this eye and creating images that tell real stories, our stories.

SOUND – nothing but reverberating waves…how do we sense them, capture them as they are, as we hear them and the way we want them to speak?

EDITING – how is the film made? What gives it a shape, a form and a body that is uniquely it’s own?

DOCUMENTING REALITY – What is the ‘reality’ we create and why? Every shot has a point of view…why do we document it?

The Camera, Sound and Editing modules have been directed by Pramod and Neelima Mathur, who have more than five decades of filmmaking experience between them.

Documenting Reality has been directed by Ranu Sharma, a filmmaker based in Delhi.
